Celebrating Australia Awards’ impact in Maldives in 2024

Australia Awards – Maldives has released its 2024 Year in Review, showcasing significant achievements and outcomes from last year. This document highlights the impact of Australia Awards through Scholarships, short-term training and alumni engagement.
Key highlights from the Year in Review for Maldives include
- Seventeen Maldivians (10 women, seven men) completed their degrees through Australia Awards Scholarships, the highest number since 2017, and returned home as alumni, committed to contributing to Maldives’ development.
- Sixteen future leaders (10 women, six men) from Maldives received Scholarships for study commencing in 2025.
- The Maldives Women in Leadership Network undertook its first activities in 2024, while Maldivian alumni actively engaged in Regional Women in Leadership Network initiatives, strengthening their networks and exchanging knowledge.
- Australia Awards implemented an innovative series of trainings and policy development activities in Kulhudhuffushi designed to promote mental well-being, which engaged more than 1,000 people.
- Australia Awards supported Maldivian individuals and groups to take part in six Australian Professional Opportunities, enhancing skills in policymaking, education, and environmental management.
Maldivian scholar Aishath Naseem who is studying a Master of International Development Practice at Monash University says, “Being an Australia Awards scholar is more than just receiving a Scholarship; it is a life-changing experience that has helped me rediscover my potential, gain valuable insights into the development field and see the world through a whole new lens.”
